Sports fan can choose from watching the Indianapolis Colts (football), Indiana Pacers (basketball), Indiana Fever (women’s basketball), and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (home of the Indy 500) to soothe their need for professional athletics. They also have a myriad of semi-pro teams you can peruse here. Hockey, soccer, women’s roller derby, NCAA sports, and high school sports are all big in Circle City. Want to participate? You can probably find a team to join.
Events are planned throughout the year that include film, food, art, theater, music, and more. To get a comprehensive list visit here and choose what interests you most. Tip: the Indianapolis Zoo was the first to be triple accredited as a zoo, an aquarium and a botanic garden by the American Alliance of Museums.
For more unconventional things to see, visit the Crown Hill Cemetery. It is whispered that paranormal activity is normal here, particularly in the Crown Hill National Cemetery, a 1.4 acre section where military members dating back to the Civil War are buried. Even if that doesn’t interest you, it’s still a beautiful walk overlooking the city.
Holcomb Observatory & Planetarium is a great place to go star-gazing. Catch the planetarium show ($5 for adults) or just enjoy the telescopes for free. The observatory is housed on the campus of Butler University. This is a great place to go for family-night or date-night.
Workout Wednesdays happen every Wednesday at noon on Georgia Street. Sponsored by Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, it’s a great way to get outside, exercise with friends, and enjoy fresh air! Plus, it’s free!
