Haier Recalls Top Freezer Unit Refrigerators

While your Haier America refrigerator may be working just fine, it could be involved in a recent recall due to the potential of a short circuit in a component that could become a fire hazard. Just this October, Haier has recalled some 137,000 units for this reason.

Haier America has received three reports of smoke and/or fire involving these 10.1 cubic foot capacity top freezer units. They were primarily sold through Lowes, as well as independent retailers throughout the U.S., between September 2014 and September 2016. There were available in black, white, and stainless steel exteriors. The recall was issued through Haier America in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This Haier America recall includes model numbers HA10TG31SB, HA10TG31SS, and HA10TG31SW with any serial numbers containing the following two-digit combination found in the 14th and 15th positions of the total number – E9, EA, EB, EC, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, FA, FB, FC, G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G6, G7, G8, G9, or GA. These units were priced between $400-500.

Look for the model and serial number on your Haier refrigerator, found on the rating label, which is located on the back of your unit on the upper, left-hand side.

If you find you have one of these units, you should place your refrigerated and frozen food in a different unit, and unplug the affected one. Then, call the Haier America hotline at 888-364-2989, Monday through Friday, or find more recall information on their website at https://www.haierappliances.com/recalls, to schedule a home repair, or fill out the rebate form.
