Is Your Whirlpool Washer Leaking?

Are you having issues with your washer leaking? If so, you need to figure out exactly what is causing the leak. Below are the possible culprits. These general suggestions are for all models of Whirlpool washers.

Water Pump

The water pump is the most common part to cause a Whirlpool washer to leak. This needs inspected before anything else. Unplug the washer, take out the two screws that hold the control panel and hinge the control panel upwards. Once inside, you’ll see a plug attached with three wires. Unplug this. Remove the clips on each side of the case and slide it out-of-the-way. Start the washer and watch the water coming in, if you see a leak in the pump it needs replaced immediately.

Hoses

Eyeball the hoses to see if there’s any noticeable holes in your fill or drain hoses. If there’s no holes present you may have to check the other half of the drain hose behind the case. Make sure to double-check both fill hoses, the one from the house to washer and vice versa.

Tub Overflow

Sometimes the water control valve can come off and cause the water to not automatically switch off like it’s supposed to. Unplug the washer, take out the two screws holding the control panel and flip it upwards like we did for the water pump check. Once you have this hinged, unplug the wires over the case, then you will be able to see the water level control piece to see if it’s on or off the tub. If it’s off, you’ll need to reinstall it. If this isn’t the issue, then the problem is most likely the water valve. In order to check if this is working you’ll need to start and stop the washer repeatedly. Each time, the water should shut off, if not you will need to completely replace the water valve.
