If your Whirlpool washer door isn’t opening and closing correctly, or it feels like there’s more friction when you move the door, the hinge pin bushing might be broken. These small parts help the door hinge open and close without putting pressure on the metal. Order replacement part #WP10208398 for as many hinge pin bushing as you need to replace. Then follow these steps to install them yourself.
Before you get started, unplug the washing machine. This should be the first step anytime you start a repair.
Open the door. Start removing the screws holding the door against the frame. Then lift door, including the hinge mechanism, free from the front panel.Set it carefully on a flat, protected work surface so the glass doesn’t crack.
First, remove the screws around the inside edge of the door. Next, separate the inner and outer door. Set the outer door aside.
On the interior side of the inner door, remove the screws holding the hinge against the door. Then lift off the plate covering the inner hinge pins.
Remove the damaged white hinge pin bushing. To remove it, just lift up the hinge and pull the part free. Then slide on the replacement piece.
Make sure the hinge is laying flat in the cutout. Then position the plate back on top and retighten the eight screws.
Next, set the outer door back against the inner door. Press the edges together and flip the whole thing over so the inner door is on top. Then reattach the screws around the interior.
Reattach the door by sliding the hooks on the hinge into the front panel. Hold it in place to support the weight and rethread the screws to secure the hinge. Plug the washer back in.
