Appliance Repair Troubleshooting

We have all had to deal with an appliance that has broken or completely stopped working. Many of us would probably rather deal with the issue on our own rather than call someone else to do it. One of the big problems is that many homeowners are not aware of how their appliances are supposed to operate and why the appliances work the way they do. Knowing the major things and the small things are what separates the professionals from the rest. However, this does not mean you are not able to do a little troubleshooting.
While we do recommend that you do not attempt to take on detailed troubleshooting of your washer or other appliances, there are some things you can do if you are hoping to cut down on the cost of a future service call. Here are a few things that we recommend during your next troubleshooting efforts:
  • Make sure your appliance is on. You can also check to make sure your circuit breaker is operating properly. Sometimes the problem is as simple as the appliance not being on or not being plugged in.
  • Many appliances will come with an owner’s manual that you should keep in your home. Generally, the owner’s manual will have the instructions and tips on how to troubleshoot the appliance. If you cannot find the manual, we are sure you will be able to find the owner’s manual online. You will find out that some appliances are known for having particular types of issues and concerns; these issues and concerns are usually addressed by others in an online discussion board.
  • Make sure your appliances are as clean as possible because dirt and other debris can cause problems with your appliance. For example, if your washer takes too long to fill, this could be an indication of a clogged screen due to debris and mineral deposits.
Knowing how to look for a problem is only one part of the equation. The other part of the equation is actually knowing what to do. If you are not a professional and if you do not feel comfortable inspecting your appliance, we recommend that you seek the assistance of a professional repair service.
At Jerry’s Appliance Repair, we are ready to diagnose your appliance’s problem. Contact us today for more information.
