How to Replace the Water Inlet Valve in Your Dishwasher

1. Start your repair by using a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower access panel or panels.
2. With a wrench, reach under your dishwasher and disconnect the water supply line attached to the water inlet valve. Have a towel ready to mop up any water that drips out of the water line. Also, use the wrench to remove the brass elbow that’s connected to the inlet valve. Down the road, you’ll need to attach the brass elbow to your new water inlet valve, so put it somewhere safe.
3. Remove the mounting screws that hold the water inlet valve to the frame of the dishwasher. Once the screws are out, disconnect the wires attached to the valve. Make sure you take note of which wire goes on the top and which wire goes on the bottom.
4. Using pliers, loosen the clamp securing the water hose to the water inlet valve. Pull the hose off the valve. Some water may spill out of the hose, so have a towel ready to clean it up. Take the faulty water inlet valve out of your dishwasher.
5. Now it’s time to install the new water inlet valve. Attach the water hose and secure the clamp with your pliers. Reconnect the wires, and mount the valve onto the dishwasher frame. Hold it in place with the screws you removed earlier.
6. Before installing the brass elbow on the new water inlet valve, wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the elbow. Once that’s done, use your hand to screw the brass elbow onto the inlet valve. To make sure it’s secure, tighten it with a wrench.
7. Finally, reattach the water supply line. Before reinstalling the lower access panel, check for leaks by turning the water supply back on. If you don’t find any leaks, use the screws you took out earlier to secure the lower access panel to your dishwasher.
8. Turn on your dishwasher at the circuit breaker. Load the appliance with dirty dishes and run a wash cycle to test out your repair.
