The holiday season is a great time to live in the Indianapolis area, with a number of joyful events taking place that are unique to this city. If you’re spending some or all of the season in our community, go out with your family and friends to these delightful events.
November 24, 6-8 p.m.: Circle of Lights
This annual event kicks off the holiday season in Indianapolis, attracting over 100,000 onlookers. At this event, the city lights the Indiana Sailors and Soldiers Monument, which has nearly 5,000 lights, in a stunning display.
Now through January 6: Festival of Trees
The Indiana Historical Society transforms annually into a holiday forest with over 80 immaculately decorated holiday trees. Throughout the season, special events take place in the forest, such as weekend crafts, Santa visits, and adult programming.
November 24 – January 7: Celebration Crossing
Every year for the holidays, Indiana State Museum transforms into a holiday winter paradise children will love. Take a ride on the Santa Claus Express, listen to holiday music, and meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus as you explore a historical look at Christmas.
November 25-26 & 29-30, December 1-3, 6-10, 13-23 & 26-30, 5-9 p.m.: Christmas at the Zoo
Combine holiday brilliance and nature by visiting the zoo after dark for astonishing displays of holiday lights. View animal species under the colorful night sky, and warm up indoors in the festive Santa’s Village with cookie decorating, warm drinks, Santa’s reindeer, and outdoor campfires.
December 8-9, 15-16 & 22-23, 6-9 p.m.: Connor Prairie by Candlelight
Turn back the clock to Prairietown in 1836 and celebrate the holidays like the pioneers. Go on a unique walking tour where you can meet a number of 1830s Indiana residents celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah. After the tour, join the campfire for festive fun.
